: Batwa/Pygmies Cultural Experience

The Batwa, also known as pygmies, are the original forest dwellers of the Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks. Traditionally, they survived through hunting and gathering fruits in the forest. Unfortunately, they were forcefully evicted by the Ugandan government to allow for mountain gorilla conservation efforts.

The Mgahinga Batwa Trail offers a captivating hike from the community into the forest, leading to the sacred Garama Cave, which was once a Batwa home. Along the trail, the Batwa demonstrate practical skills such as bamboo cup making and continue to share knowledge about the forest's resources. The visit culminates at the Garama Cave, a place of deep cultural significance to the Batwa people.
