About Nyungwe National Park

Nyungwe National Park is a vast tropical rainforest covering approximately 1,019 square kilometers in southwestern Rwanda. It is one of the oldest and largest montane rainforests in Africa.

Key highlights of Nyungwe National Park include:

  • Biodiversity: Renowned for its incredible biodiversity, Nyungwe is home to over 1,000 plant species, including many orchids and medicinal plants.

  • Primates: The park is a primate sanctuary, hosting 13 species of primates, including chimpanzees, Rwenzori colobus monkeys, and vervet monkeys.

  • Birdlife: It boasts over 300 bird species, making it a prime destination for birdwatchers.

  • Scenic beauty: The landscape features dense forest, waterfalls, and rolling hills, offering stunning hiking and canopy walk experiences.

  • Canopy Walkway: A famous 60-meter-long suspended bridge allows visitors to walk high above the forest floor for spectacular views.
